The goal of the Trauma Transformation Initiative is to transform child care centers and preschools into nurturing, calm, trauma-informed environments that promote healing and resilience for all children and their families. The Initiative reaches center directors, teachers, children and parents as part of this project to increase knowledge about toxic stress and trauma on children, improve the skills of the educators, build resilience for the children within the center and teach parents and other caregivers how to best support their children at home so that these children can reach their highest potential in school and in life.
Initial results of TTI have shown an increase in staff confidence using social emotional strategies in the classroom, a reduction in the number of incidences reported in the classroom and an improvement in the ways that parents and professionals connect and interact with their children. TTI parents reported learning and applying new strategies that help children identify feelings and regulate emotions in a healthy and positive way.
TTI is built on an integrative framework of Attachment Theory, Social and Emotional Learning Theory and Change Management Theory. It is designed to create change at an organizational level that then directly impacts all layers of that system.
TTI is currently available to child care centers in and around NJ for a fee.
TTI is also currently being adapted for before/after school programs and school districts. Please contact us for more information!
What People are Saying about TTI:
“The calm down tent has become a life saver for me for many reasons; First’ this years class has been especially emotional, second, it has given me a new way to prevent some of my emotional children from getting too emotional. The calm down tent allows me to continue with what I am doing with the other children while letting the emotional child time to calm down. The Trauma Transformation Sessions have helped me to refocus my disciplinary style to make everyday a wonderful day for myself and more importantly my students, whom a love dearly. Thank you all for this wonderful seminar!” -Miss Katy
“The Calm Down Kit has been highly effective in my classroom. I can see my children coming out from there in a much happier mood. The Calm Down Kit has had positive results in my children both educationally and socially within their peers.”- Erin K, Kiddie Academy of Bridgewater
“The children in my class solve problems between one another by telling each other how they’re feeling. By doing this, they go to the feeling chart and point to the level that they are feeling both when they’re having a disagreement between each other or when they’re happy. This has helped them solved problems between one another themselves.” Erin K, Kiddie Academy of Bridgewater
“My son, Travis, began attending Kiddie Academy in September 2018 when he was 2 years old. Our family had experienced a great deal of change which had a significant impact on him. In addition to these changes, Travis has a severe speech delay which inhibits his ability to express himself verbally. The combination of everything led to undesirable behaviors. With open communication, understanding and his teachers’ training through the Trauma Transformation Initiative, Travis has flourished. His teachers now have a better understanding of how to address his emotions and how to help him better understand them. The calm down kits, specifically allowing him to blow bubbles or look at the feelings chart have been very helpful. He loves bubbles and the act of making them allows him to control his breathing which helps calm him down. The feelings chart is an easy way for him to let his teachers know how he is feeling when he isn’t able to verbally express himself. I am very happy with the positive changes that have occurred and am thankful for the training the teachers received.”
